MODULE 5.
NOTE: ALL MODULES ARE GIVEN CONTINUOUSLY YEAR-ROUND. FOR
EXAMPLE WHEN MODULE 5 IS FINISHED, MODULE 1 WILL BE GIVEN
SHORTLY THEREAFTER AND SO ON. ALSO MAKE-UP DATES WILL BE AVAILABLE
AT THE END OF EACH MODULE IF YOU CANNOT MAKE EACH SESSION.

What is home inspection?
- Home Inspection is defined as the process by which a home
inspector observes and provides a written report of the
systems and components of a residential building including
but not limited to:
A. Heating System
B. Cooling System
C. Plumbing System
D. Electrical System
E Structural Components - foundation, roof masonry structure,
exterior and interior components or any other related residential
building component recommended by the Home Inspection Council
and implemented by the Department through the regulatory
process.
What are
the requirements?
- • Have successfully completed high school or its equivalent
• Education: 140-hour course study consisting
of 5 Modules.

100 hours in class (Modules 1 - 4) |
| • |
40 hours as unpaid field based inspections
(Module 5) in the presence of NYC licensed
home inspector, or a professional engineer or architect,
regulated by NYS.
Or 100 hours of performing home inspections (paid
or unpaid) in the presence of and under the direct
supervision of a Home Inspector licensed by NYS, or
a professional engineer or architect regulated by
NYS, |

Successful Completion of an Exam: Have passed
the NYS written examination
• Application Fee: Each application
must be accompanied by a nonrefundable application fee
of $250; the license will be effective for 2 years.
• Examination Fee: $50 - for
each exam taken.

- Who are the instructors?

Peter Berman is a NY Licensed Home Inspector (NYS License # 1600009497) with over 10 years experience in the Inspection, Construction and Development industries. As a business owner he is well versed in the technical aspects as well as the start-up and administration of an Inspection business. Inspect Your Home, Inc. (www.InspectYourHome.net) has been operating since 2001 and has performed inspections for numerous individuals, investors, and some of the largest national Real Estate Holding companies and lenders including Legg Mason, Wells Fargo, and GMAC.
Peter holds a Bachelors Degree from Syracuse University, in Public Affairs. In addition he is a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors, National Association of Home Builders, and the Builder’s Association of the Hudson Valley where he is a member of the Government affairs committee. Peter holds the designation of Certified Graduate Builder, from the NAHB.

In the nearly 10 years that Howie Berman has been involved in the Inspection, Construction, and Development fields, he has performed residential and commercial inspections and built over 150 homes. As the Director of Inspection Services at Inspect Your Home, Inc, Howie is responsible for developing inspection standards and keeping his inspectors up to date with the most current technical information.
Howie holds the following degrees, licenses and certifications: Bachelor of Arts, University of Michigan: Political Science; American Home Inspectors Training Institute; New York State Home Inspector License #16000009436; New York State Approved Home Inspector Instructor; New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commercial Pesticide Applicator (Termite Inspections); Disaster Housing Inspector. He is a full member of the American Society of Home Inspectors, National Association of Home Builders, New York State Builders Association, and the Builders Association of Hudson Valley for whom he sits on the Education committee.
